After just two rounds of the Wimmera hockey season, several teams already face pivotal match-ups that could define their season when round three is played at Dimboola this weekend. Last weekend saw the annual visit to the Wimmera railway branch lines of the inspection train, known as the AK Cars. The first round of the Wimmera Hockey Association season last weekend yielded some predictable results but also showed some form that suggests it will be a competitive season. Despite being the first competitive hit for many players since the end of last season, round one of the Wimmera Hockey Association witnessed some quality hockey along with the return of Friday evening matches and two teams from Dimboola. Wimmera hockey will launch a big season this weekend with the return of two teams from the Dimboola club who will mark their return with the first Friday evening matches in five years and on Saturday, and two big clashes between the reigning grand finalists in two divisions. Fifty-six of the names on the Dimboola town Honour Rolls represent those who volunteered for service overseas in World War One from the district who did not return. In 1924 Dimboola RSL Sub-branch held their ninth ANZAC Day service at Dimboola’s new War Memorial, the Soldiers Memorial Higher Elementary School.
